K-12 Student and Teacher Programs

The following programs are of interest to students and teachers in K-12 classes.

Apprentice Researchers (AR)

High school juniors and teachers from local Santa Barbara area conduct research in UCSB campus laboratories during the summer.

Burnham Engineering and Applied Science Scholarship Program

Scholarships for incoming UCSB Freshmen majoring in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or the Biological Sciences.

Family Science in the Community

The LEAPS program runs a series of family science nights at local junior highs to engage students and families in scientific activities with UCSB scientists and researchers.

Let's Explore Applied Physical Science (LEAPS)

Junior High Physical Science teachers work with UCSB graduate students to bring new science curriculum and hands-on activities to local grade 8 classrooms.

LEAPS After-school Clubs

Local students from grades 3 to 8 meet after school to explore science and engineering with their teachers and UCSB undergraduate club leaders.

School for Scientific Thought (SST)

Science and Engineering courses, designed and taught by graduate students actively engaged in cutting-edge research, for motivated high school students on Saturdays in Fall and Winter Quarters.

Summer Institute in Mathematics and Science (SIMS)

Graduating high school seniors who will be attending UCSB participate in a two-week summer residential program for intensive academic preparation and introduction to research.
