Jennifer Smith

Biography

Jennifer Smith earned her B.S. degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Davis in 2002 and her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2011 in the laboratory of Drs. Leslie Wilson and Mary Ann Jordan studying microtubule-targeting cancer chemotherapeutics. Dr. Smith then continued her work as a postdoctoral researcher studying the neurological effects of these chemotherapeutics using in vitro neuronal systems. In 2015, Dr. Smith joined the California NanoSystems Institute to leverage her experience with biological systems and biochemistry as the manager of the Biological Nanostructures Laboratory, working at the interface of biology and engineering.

Job Responsibilities

Assists researchers using equipment in the Biological Nanostructures Laboratory, which contains a broad array of instrumentation for use in the areas of chemical engineering, materials science, genetics, biology, and environmental science. Instrumentation includes equipment for synthesis and characterization of chemical, biochemical, and biological materials.
